Jazz pianist James Fernando brings his music to the BPL Courtyard.

Official Description

James Fernando is a 20-year-old pianist from Needham, Massachusetts, who frequently performs and teaches around the Boston area. He began playing piano at age five and studied classically until age 13, when he discovered jazz by playing in his middle school jazz band. Throughout high school, he studied at the New England Conservatory Preparatory School and won several student awards, including from the National YoungArts Foundation and DownBeat magazine. Fernando was a member of the 2013 Jazz Band of America as well as Berklee’s 2013 summer jazz workshop. After receiving a scholarship during the Berklee summer program, he began studying performance at Berklee in the fall of 2014.
