FAQs

FAQs

Q: What exactly do you mean by “young” and “professional”?
A: Both of these terms are fairly ambiguous. While we don’t check IDs at the door, most folks at our events are between 22 and 39. If you find yourself far-removed from that range, you might feel a bit out of place, but you can be the judge of that. As for the “professional” piece, that generally means “non-student,” though we do have some graduate students who come out regularly.

Q: Is this a match-making service or singles group?
A: No. If you happen to meet someone you want to ask out at one of our events, that’s great, but Opus Affair was not conceived as a dating service.

Q: I don’t work in the arts, would I fit in?
A: Of course. This group is for young professionals interested in the Fine Arts, not just those working the arts. Many of our regulars work in the arts, but we also have doctors, lawyers, software developers, research scientists, teachers, and various other non-arts professionals.

Q: I don’t know anything at all about ballet, opera, or any fancy artsy things, but I think I would like to learn. Will I feel out of place?
A: We hope not! Part of our mission is to introduce new people to the arts through personal connections. There is no better way to learn about the arts than by meeting the people who create them.

Q: I can’t seem to get a group of friends to come out with me, will it be awkward to show up alone?
A: Definitely not. Opus Affair is a friendly group and is always open to new people. If you come alone, look for the host or one of the co-hosts and they can help you meet some interesting folks.

Q: Are you trying to sell me something?
A: No. Opus Affair is independant of any cultural organizations or performing groups. Our regular monthly parties have no cover charges or tickets, but they are cash bar. You come and run your own tab at the bar. There may be some special events that require a ticket, but our regular monthly cocktail gatherings will always be free.

Q: Will you send out an email to promote my concert/group/gallery opening/etc.?
A: We can’t actively promote every group/project that comes to us, but we do want to help you. We are developing a new Opus Affair Partner Network to list cultural organizations who are committed to reaching out to Young Professionals. Email graham@opusaffair.com to ask about this program.

Q: Can my company sponsor a special event?
A: Yes, this is possible. Email graham@opusaffair.com to discuss details.

Q: I’m convinced I should come, but what should I wear?
A: Business attire is a safe bet for our cocktail parties. Take a look at pictures from our past events to get an idea. You don’t have to be part of the glitterati to come out, but you might be uncomfortable if you are extremely casual.
